Federal Entrance Counseling & Master Promissory Note

Completing Entrance Counseling

  • Students should log in to the Federal Student Aid website.
  • Hover over the “Loans and Grants” tab and select "Loan Entrance Counseling."

Entrance counseling ensures you understand the terms and conditions of your loan and your rights and responsibilities. When you’ve finished, please include University of Nebraska–Lincoln information so your results are sent to our offices.

You will review information regarding the estimated cost of your tuition and education at the university that you input. Select in-state, out-of-state, whether you are residing on-campus and the expected years to complete your program.

At the end of your entrance counseling, you will be given knowledge-based questions about the content. Once you successfully complete the questions, you'll submit them on the counseling page.

Completing the Master Promissory Note

  • Students should log in to the Federal Student Aid website.
  • Hover over the “Loans and Grants” tab and select "Master Promissory Note (MPN)."

Both students and parents should have the necessary items at their disposal, such as their permanent mailing address, personal contact information, and two references. Parents are the borrowers of the Parent PLUS loan and should be listed in the borrower. The student's information should be in the student section.

Both students and parents will need to provide two references. These references will be points of contact for the loan servicers of the respective federal student loan or Parent PLUS loan. For student references, the first reference must be a parent or legal guardian. References must have different addresses and telephone numbers. For parents completing their Master Promissory Note, the student cannot be a reference.
