Summer Aid Application

  1. Log in to MyRED.
  2. Enroll in your summer coursework.
  3. Select “Summer Aid Application” from the "Financial Aid" tab.

The disbursement of your federal aid—such as federal loans—require halftime status. Halftime status for undergraduate and law students is six credit hours, five credit hours for graduate students. Financial aid could be reduced or canceled if you enroll in fewer credit hours than you initially indicated on the summer aid application. It is important to update your summer aid application if you change enrollment credits.

Full-Time Federal Work-Study (FWS)

If you are a law student interested in completing full-time federal work-study, you will need to have your current FAFSA Form and next year's FAFSA Form on file. You will not need to complete the summer aid application but instead complete and return the Federal Work-Study Certification Form.

Direct Loan & Pell Grant

Students that have used 100% of their federal direct student loan eligibility will not be eligible to receive funds in the summer. The amount of loans you are offered is dependent on your grade level (e.g. first-year, second-year etc.). The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid will review your currently enrolled courses to determine if you have additional loan eligibility for your summer semester. If you do not pass all your spring courses, your summer aid could be reduced or canceled.

For Pell Grant eligibility, you need to be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours for undergraduate students). To maintain eligibility, you must be enrolled in classes by the last date to add a class for the summer semester (See the academic calendar for all summer semester dates and deadlines). If you drop a course, your grant may be reduced or canceled. Contact us at Husker Hub before making changes to your summer sessions.

Additional Loan Options

Continue to answer the questions provided, as it helps determine the financial aid you will receive during your period of enrollment. This may include childcare needs, federal work-study, federal direct loans, etc. You may have used 100% of your federal direct student loan eligibility during the regular academic year.

The last page asks if you are receiving summer funding from any of these programs. Please only indicate if you are certain. Once you continue, your application has been received and will take two to three weeks for processing and awarding.

FAFSA Form

If you are a scholarship applicant only, you do not need to complete the FAFSA Form. If you rely on federal funding, you will need to complete the summer aid application and the FAFSA Form. If you need to make any changes to your summer enrollment hours, update your application by visiting the “Financial Aid” tab in MyRED, selecting “Summer Aid Application” and updating any necessary hours.
