Apply for Nebraska Promise

To apply for Nebraska Promise, apply for admission to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, or at one of the other University of Nebraska Institutions. Then file your FAFSA Form by the priority deadline of each academic year that you are attending the university.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will receive your financial aid award letter and a notification stating that you qualify for the Nebraska Promise for the upcoming year. The Nebraska Promise is a program, not a scholarship, meaning you would not see an award within your financial aid package labeled as the Nebraska Promise.

You will see a variety of funding sources that will cover the cost of your tuition up to 15 credit hours. Some of those funding sources you may see on your award letter that fulfill the Nebraska Promise can include Federal Pell Grant, opportunity grants, academic scholarships, and military tuition waivers.

Common Nebraska Promise Questions

Why is there still a charge for tuition on my account if I have the Nebraska Promise?

Students will still be charged for tuition. Your financial aid award will cover up to 15 credit hours' worth of that tuition cost to offset that charge.

Does Nebraska Promise cover summer coursework?

No. Nebraska Promise is only available in fall and spring semesters. You may be eligible for other funding options through the Summer Aid Application.

If I’m a spring admit, can I still receive my benefits of the Nebraska Promise?

No. Students must meet all applicable deadlines including for filing the FAFSA Form.

If I’m in a course of study that had differential tuition (higher than the base rate for a resident student), will the Nebraska Promise still cover those credit hours?

Yes. Grants and scholarships will be increased to match the actual cost of tuition up to 15 credit hours.
